Community Matters

The Centre in The Community

Through working with the community the Centre constantly seeks to develop its ability to enhance the opportunities provided to the children of Derbyshire for the extension of their personalities, character and aspirations.

The Centre believes that by working with the children during their holiday it can contribute to their future personal development, self esteem and sense of community spirit and from that to the ongoing strength of society.

Central to the furtherance and success of these goals are the development of initiatives and support.

More About our initiatives

Weekend Breaks

In the quest to develop opportunities for the children of Derbyshire the Centre, in late 2005, commenced an initiative of out of season weekend breaks for organised youth groups from the county.  The breaks, from Friday to Sunday evenings, run from the beginning of November to the end of March and have been recognised by premier youth groups as an opportunity to contribute to their own programmes of youth opportunity.

Attending groups include, Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies together with Church youth groups.  Enquiries for inclusion in this initiative should be made to the Trust Secretary whose details are included in the contacts page.

Sports Coaching Holidays

A programme of sporting development holidays has been instigated by the Centre working in partnership with Derby County Football Club’s ‘Football in the Community’ and Walbrook Community Sport.

The generous support of companies and organisations within the community has assured the programme for 2007. Their support is recognised within the page ‘Community Partners’.

On the three half term breaks of the academic year fifteen children aged from eight to fourteen together with two DCFC coaches and a staff member of WCS holiday for the week at the Centre and enjoy an intensive programme of coaching combined with social activities provided by the Centre’s staff.  With referring schools and teachers, parents and the three hosting partners recognizing the accumulative benefits gained by the children the programme has been extended to include a dedicated coaching day within the weekly holiday schedule throughout the summer holiday.

To support this initiative please contact the Trust’s Fundraising Officer whose details are to be found in the contacts page.
